Communications and public affairs |
Gain valuable experience working with one of San Francisco’s largest municipal agencies on communications and public affairs initiatives. Interns will help craft communications strategies for Public Works programs and projects; write press releases and copy for the employee and community newsletters; design brochures; create fact sheets; produce community events and news conferences; take photos and videos; assist in construction project outreach; develop content for social media; and help out with day-to-day operations of the team, including, but not limited to, research, fact-checking and archival tasks. Interns report directly to Public Works’ director of policy and communications.
Candidates must have strong writing and public speaking skills and the ability to multi-task, excel under deadline pressure and work well with others on the team. Command of Microsoft Office a must. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications, such as InDesign, Illustrator and Premiere Pro, is a plus. Creativity strongly encouraged.
The internship is open to students earning a degree in communications, journalism, public affairs, public relations, urban affairs or a similar program, and to people who have a degree in one of those subject areas.
The internship is unpaid. Candidates must commit to at least six weeks and be prepared to work at least 15 hours a week.
