The structural engineering section provides consulting services for the construction, repair, renovation, alteration and seismic retrofit of new and existing City-owned infrastructure, including buildings, facilities, and roadway structures (bridges, stairways, retaining walls, tunnels).
Under direct supervision, essential functions of the intern include: performing professional civil and structural engineering work in the field and office; preparing structural calculations; developing analytical models (ETABS, SAP 2000, RISA); preparing contract drawings (including AutoCAD and Revit); preparing technical engineering reports and other documentation; reviewing shop drawing submittals and requests for information; conducting field investigations and performing surveys; and performing other related duties as required.

InspectionsInterns will gain firsthand experience performing inspections on City-owned street structures, including stairs, retaining walls, guardrails, ramps, bridges and tunnels.

fieldworkInterns will have the opportunity to work on projects throughout San Francisco, visit job sites and conduct field surveys.
